How to Read F1 Live Telemetry
Live telemetry turns a lap into a set of channels — speed, throttle, brake, gear and energy. Reading them together tells you how a driver built the lap time, not just what it was.
The core telemetry channels
- Speed: vehicle speed over distance, peaking on straights and dropping to a minimum at each apex.
- Throttle: application as a percentage, separating full throttle from partial or lift-and-coast.
- Brake: braking pressure and the exact point on track where the driver starts to brake.
- Gear and RPM: gear selection and engine speed, useful to spot short-shifting or a missed gear.
- DRS and ERS: whether the rear flap is open and where the hybrid system is deploying energy.
Reading a single lap
- Follow the speed trace first to map the corners and straights of the circuit.
- Overlay throttle and brake: a clean lap has a sharp brake release straight into throttle.
- A long partial-throttle plateau usually means traction limitation or energy and fuel saving.
- Check the DRS state on the long straights to confirm a tow or detection-zone effect.
Comparing two drivers
- Always compare laps on the same tyre compound and a similar tyre age.
- Differences at apex speed point to mechanical grip or corner-entry confidence.
- Differences on the straight point to power-unit deployment, drag or traction on exit.
- Use the Speed Delta chart to quantify exactly where the lap-time gap is built.
Frequently asked questions
What does F1 live telemetry show?
Speed, throttle, brake, gear, RPM, DRS and ERS deployment for each car, plotted over the lap so you can see how the lap time was built.
Can I watch F1 telemetry live for free?
Yes. Open the f1-agws live dashboard and switch to the Telemetry tab — no account or subscription, with data updating in real time during every session.
How do you compare two drivers' telemetry?
Compare laps on the same tyre compound and similar tyre age: differences at the apex point to grip, differences on the straight point to power and drag.
