F1 Telemetry Glossary
A clear glossary reduces interpretation errors. Here are the terms that really matter when analysing lap times and telemetry in real time.
Lap time terms
- Delta: time difference between two drivers or two laps.
- Best Lap: the driver's fastest lap overall.
- Representative Lap: a clean lap used to assess true pace.
Telemetry terms
- Throttle Trace: throttle position as a percentage over distance.
- Brake Trace: braking intensity and duration.
- Apex Speed: minimum speed at the centre of a corner.
Strategy terms
- Stint: a block of laps on the same set of tyres.
- Tyre Age: number of laps completed on the current tyre.
- Undercut / Overcut: pit stop strategies used to gain track position.
